Mary Jean (Krebs) Steward

Mary Jean (Krebs) Steward died peacefully, surrounded by her family at her lifetime home in Sunfield on January 12,2017. Jean was born January 28, 1926 in the same family home, to Ernest and Lydia (Dell) Krebs. Jean attended Woodland School and enjoyed her friends and playing basketball. She graduated in 1943 and began working at Union Bank in Lake Odessa. She stopped working to marry her true love Wayne E. Steward on August 20,1947 in that same family home. A marriage that lasted until Wayne's death 63 years later.  From that marriage three children were born and raised. Once the kids began school, Jean returned to the bank where she enjoyed working with her co-workers and serving her customer/friends. She retired from the bank after 30 years of service.  Jean loved Jesus and was a faithful member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church. There she served in many ways including teaching Sunday School and being a long time member of the Women's Missionary Society.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents Ernest & Lydia Krebs, husband Wayne, and grandchildren Jana & Joel Briggs. Surviving are her children Jim (Glenda) Steward, JoAnn (Jerry) Briggs, Scott (Lori) Steward, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  A special thank you to the staff at River Inn AFC for their great love and care of Jean during her stay there.  Visitation will be Monday January 16th from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at the Sunfield United Brethren Church. The funeral service will be held Tuesday January 17th at 11 AM at the church. Contributions can be made to Great Lakes Caring or Camp Living Waters. Envelopes available at the church.
