Audrey Irene (Ruud) Smith

Audrey Irene Smith, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on June 10, 1952, in Norway, Audrey immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 13 and later became a U.S. citizen. She lived a life marked by deep faith, loving service, and artistic creativity.

Audrey devoted her career to Christian book publishing, working in proofreading, typesetting, and other roles that helped bring messages of hope to readers. She loved spending time with friends through Silver Sneakers exercise, Bible study groups, lunches, and fellowship, and she treasured learning about her family ancestry and the journeys that shaped her life.

An artist at heart, Audrey enjoyed playing piano, creating new art, painting framed works in many styles, and planting vibrant garden pots. She loved family and friends above all, and her greatest passion was sharing her faith in Jesus with others. Audrey served in many ministries, especially children’s programs and Awana, where the kids she mentored meant a great deal to her.

She is survived by her son, Christopher Smith, his wife, L'lainah, their six children: Leah, Jonah, Quinn, Gabe, Ari, and Isla; her daughter, Melinda Smith, her husband, Xander; and many dear friends who were like family.

Services will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at South Church in Lansing, MI, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. visitation and an 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life. Following a luncheon at the church, burial will take place at East Sebewa Cemetery in Sunfield at 2:30 p.m. Her faithful spirit, creative heart, and loving witness will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
