Our dear sweet sister Rebecca Anne Calabro passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 15th. Becky’s life was a beautiful reflection of Love, Faith and Compassion. She adored her small town of Sunfield and cherished her deep-rooted connection to Main Street and the community that surrounded it. Becky worked at Mapes Furniture Company for over 30 years and proudly carried on its legacy by purchasing the beloved store and continuing its success, keeping its spirit alive and thriving for the community she loved.
Becky so enjoyed spending many wonderful years tap dancing with the Center Stage Dance Academy in Lake O’ Dessa. Her quick feet and bright smile lighting up every performance.
A gentle soul with a fierce devotion to animals, Becky rescued countless stray cats-personally seeing to it they were spayed or neutered and then found loving homes for them. She created a beautiful bird sanctuary in her yard that offered plentiful food and peace to creatures great and small.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures with countless miles walking the streets of Sunfield, hours reading a good book and most of all, time spent with the people she loved. Becky shared a special bond with all of her brothers and sisters (from the Mapes Family and the Grommons Family), and they meant everything to her. She was especially devoted to her nieces and nephews (known to some as Aunt B.), always showing up with love, laughter and maybe a little mischief.
Her great sense of humor brought smiles wherever she went. She spent many evenings with her family in the living room telling stories and laughing to the point of tears. Becky could always be counted on to lighten the mood and bring people together.
Her unwavering faith in God guided her every step and she lived with a quiet strength and kindness that inspired everyone lucky enough to know her. It was her faith in God and the many prayers that got her through this last year.
Becky’s legacy of love-for family, friends, and her community will live on in the hearts of all she touched.
Becky would want to tell you to find something positive in each day no matter what you are going through and to remember that every day is a gift so live it to its fullest!
Visitation will be 10:00am to 11:00am Thursday July 17th at the Sunfield United Brethren Church.
There will be a Celebration of life for Becky on Thursday July 17th at 11:00am at the United Brethren Church 8436 W. Grand Ledge Hwy. in Sunfield followed by a luncheon. Graveside service to follow the luncheon.
